Debt-free living: What to do about a car

We’re looking into buying a new car.

We’ve been a one car family for the majority of our marriage, & we’ve sort of lucked out, so far, in the car department.

There was a time when we bought a second, “commuter” car for $1600. We had it for a year, then sold it for $1000. That was a pretty good deal.

Then there was that time I met a lady at the park & she gave me a car. (Seriously.) After talking with her for awhile, she got my number, then called me later, & said, “I know this may be weird, but I’d like to give you a car.” It wasn’t new (in fact, the back bumper was bashed in, but it worked), we had to for a year, then sold it for $1250. Missing Home & No-bake gluten-free chocolate cookies

My days look something like this.

I wake up (usually around 6:30).

I get dressed & ready in 10 minutes.

I make lunches & oversee the breakfast eating.

I kiss Joseph goodbye.

I send the boys off to the bus.

I walk Mali to school. I eat breakfast & read the NY Times while Salem watches Caliou.

I tidy up the house.

I play with Salem–we read, draw, play with blocks.

I pick up Mali from school & we walk home.

I make her a peanut butter & jelly sandwich for lunch.

I put Salem down for a nap.

I do the dishes.

I help Mali with her “homework” from preschool.

We read books, play barbies.

The boys come home from school.

I help them get an after school snack. We talk about their day.

I help them vacuum or put the dishes away.

We go for a walk , or to the park, or to the pool & swim.

I start...

Military Wife & Life

Joseph promoted to Captain this week.

As part of his promotion ceremony, I made these (4 dozen of ’em!).

Vegan, but not gluten-free.

strawberry & cream cheese chocolate

&

strawberry & cream cheese vanilla
(though not pictured)

mint chocolate
(mint frosting w/ a chocolate ganache)

&, straight up chocolate

I thank Isa, & Coleen Patrick-Goudreau for their inspiration. I used their recipes (from this & this* cookbook), tweeked a few things, & had blast concocting, swirling, frosting, & shaving (chocolate, that is). My kitchen was a fury of flour & sugar.

I’m thrilled to have excuses to make cupcakes.

Too bad I couldn’t eat them (darn gluten).

Later in the day I quizzed Joseph about the cupcakes.

Did you taste the strawberries in the cupcakes? (I added pureed strawberries to the...
