{This is part of a series about my experience with a 14-day raw foods cleanse}
Day 1 (so far)
I didn’t eat anything until about 2 pm. This is very unusual, even for me. I know some people would say this is horrible, to not eat anything until so late in the day, but I was busy with other things & truly not hungry.
Also, part of purpose of this cleanse is to finer attune myself to my body’s hunger cues. Feeding it only when I’m hungry as well as not eating just because it happens to be meal time.
I think my late hunger can be partially blamed on the fact that last night we had a very late dinner & on top of that, got take out.
We had a showing for our house last night around dinnertime so I took the kids & got them some Taco Bell & then went to the park. Taco Bell actually has a few vegan items on the menu. I’m not advocating Taco Bell, but even we eat fast food occasionally, especially when the occasion merits it. I ordered them tosadas al fresco, bean burritos al fresco, & sides of rice. My kids thought it was a pretty special night to be “eating out.”
Later, after the kids were asleep, I ran out & got some take out from our fave Chinese/sushi place. Miso soup & veggie sushi for me, chicken lettuce wraps for Joseph. Any reasonable person would say it was much too late for dinner, but we were hungry, and it felt special & nice in our clean home, without any kids around.
We had another showing this morning so I spent a good portion of it tidying up–mopping (again) & vacuuming (again). Then I went shopping at Costco & stocked up on a plenty of raw options for my cleanse including:
My first foods of the day were two honey-crisp apples on the way home from Costco, which really kicked my appetite in high gear. It was like I put something into my system & my body said, feed me!
By the time I got home I was HUNGRY & wanted something quick. I would have made a green smoothie, but I was in the mood for something I could chew. So I made this:
- about 4 c. pre-washed, organic spring mix greens
- 1 c. organic frozen peas, rinsed under hot water ’til defrosted
- 1 large handful grape tomatoes, halved
- 1/4 c. shelled pistachios
- 1 TBS. dehydrated onions
- balsamic vinegar
- a little Saracha sauce (what can I say, I love a little spice)
After the salad I followed with one avocado, served with sheets of toasted seaweed.
And for dessert?
Apple pie.
An apple pie Lara bar that is.
So far, I’m feeling great, thinks are looking up. And, I’ve had no chewing gum today!
I’m not hungry & it’s almost dinner time.
Joseph’s making dinner, & guess what’s on the menu: make your own salad (bar) night!
