10 tips for frugal baking + buckwheat & oats muffins

 

For today’s frugal Tuesdays post I thought we’d talk baking, specifically frugal baking. As you know, baking can get pricey, especially if you’re using vegan, gluten-free, & unrefined ingredients.

 

Here’s a quick list of 10 tips
I’ve gleaned over the years of my experience with being a vegan & gluten-free (& frugal!) baker.

 

Costco (they now carry gluten-free all-purpose flour) & Azure Standard, as well as Amazon (I have a Prime membership–so free shipping!) are my go to places for most all of my baking needs.

I use my Blendtec to make my own flours & have done so with great success for years.

Most baked goods freeze well for up to 3 months if sealed well in a freezer bag. This saves on time & energy–yes!

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder.

It’s true.

I mentioned on Friday how Joseph has been putting in long hours at work, preparing for a high-profile case that goes to trial beginning today. So he’s been gone a lot, & in some ways it feels like we’re dating again. I’m pining for him. Hoping & waiting for his calls.

It’s also giving me a small taste of what life might look like when he’s deployed (which will be, at some point, we don’t know when), & it’s a little frightening. I’m a strong woman. But Joseph & I, we created this family together. We’re going to raise them together. So, when he’s not around I’m left to acknowledge my own personal glaring inadequacies, & it’s not always an easy thing.

Fit Fridays: 4 quick & easy meal ideas + my free workouts!

I lost weight this week.

2.4 pounds.

My starting weight was 204. I’m now at 181. Hopefully by next week I’ll be below 180. Yipee!

I tell people all the time–you’ve got to trust the process. Don’t give up if you have a week where you maintain or even gain.

Easier said than done!

But all the little tweeks & extra attention to detail paid off. Like focusing on eating these foods.

I know WIAW (what I ate Wednesdays) posts are popular in the blogosphere. But that’s never really been my thing. I don’t like to be put up to that level of scrutiny, but I understand why it’s become popular–inquiring minds want to know, “what DO you eat???”
