SRT12: Idaho

We’ve begun our 3,000+ mile journey.

And it all starts here:

That’s right.

Idaho.

You don’t have to tell me.  I know.  Idaho is about as glamorous as a sack of potatoes.

But it’s the first stop on our nearly 3 week road trip of the wild wild west.  We figured time is running out before the lieutenant (ie. Joseph) reports, we have a little money to play around with, why not?

Yesterday, with a stuffed min-van, we began our adventure.

10 hours of driving & 13 hours later( we had to stop every hour or two when the kids were awake), we arrived in Rexburg, ID.  Home of my brother & sister-in-law.  We’re here for a day to play them.  Tennis, maybe some water-play, go to “Bear World” (I have no idea what to expect, just know that there are bears & other wildlife there), just spend some time with people we are quite fond of.

Joseph did most of the driving, but I took the late shift (12-3 am).

I’m terrible at staying awake while driving, but night driving is so utterly uncomplicated & productive (because, duh, they’re asleep) when you have little kids, it’s hard not to take advantage of it.

The only way I can stay awake is by eating/drinking the old trucker standbys:  sunflower seeds & diet coke.

I know!  Diet coke.  It’s awful stuff, but it’s one I’ll take for the team so we won’t crash & die.  Since the only time I drink it is during the 1st trimester of pregnancy (again, gross!) & on such occasions as this, I’m pretty sensitive to the caffeine & it keeps me up.

Tomorrow:  We return to Provo for a few days, to say good-bye to our home.

When traveling with kids, do you drive at night just so you can avoid all the torture that goes on during long, daytime trips, or am I the only one?  What are your tricks for staying awake during such trips?
