oh my. goodness.
Have you ever had fresh cantaloupe juice?
I’m doing a cleanse. Hard core cleanse (I’ll save the nitty gritty details for another post).
I’ve dusted off my juicer (I use a Champion, but you can also make in a Blendtec or Vitamix) and have been experimenting with all sorts of juices. Apple/Beet/Parsley juice. Carrot juice. Romaine lettuce/Apple/Lemon juice (I love this combo). So far, my favorite. Hands down, cantaloupe juice.
It’s amazing. It’ll rock your world. You might be thinking, why would I want to juice something I enjoy EATING? Yes, yes, I understand. Good point. But just try it. It really is the sweetest, creamiest, juice I’ve ever had.
And so good for you too. Cantaloupe is rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A) as well as many other nutrients such as magnesium and zinc, and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Drinking the juice was reminiscent of a brief tenure I had in Chile, where fresh fruit juices were the norm during the hot summer months. I had cantaloupe juice then, but never since, and drinking it again reminded me how divine this stuff is.
The key to a good juice is using a RIPE canteloupe. I let them sit for a few days after purchasing, to allow the fruit to ripen up a bit more. You know it’s ripe when you slice the fruit open and you can see the juice flow out. The flesh should also be an orangish color (rather then yellow, and definately not green!). Yesterday I added a juiced a few sprigs of mint with the cantaloupe and it added a slight minty flavor. I liked it.
Here’s to happy (canteloupe juice) drinking!
