Homeschooling Part 1: Why homeschool?

 

I’ve mentioned that this year I’m home schooling, as you may recall.

I’ve wanted to talk about our experience & our reasoning behind the decision, for awhile, but it seems like something else has always come up.

Also, I know that you may just come here for the freakin’ awesome food, so I don’t want to bore you with my day-to-day stuff.  But, this homeschooling thing has pretty much taken over my life, so I think it only fitting to share.

And, since I have more to say on the matter than what can be shared in a single blog post–lots to share (& I’d love to answer any questions you may have), I decided to create a series on the topic.  Each Tuesday, for the next bit, I’ll share some thoughts on homeschooling & education–what we’re doing, what’s working, what’s not.

{MM} 9.24.2012

The other day, my thoughts ran along the lines of: My contacts are old, my glasses are broken. I can’t find my car keys.  (I’ve been looking for a few days, now.)  I have a negative checking account balance–something about the AF messed up the first paycheck, so our first big chunk of real-life money has not been recieved yet.  And, when will I get a chance to scrub the bathtub & toilet?  Gosh it’s looking dirty.

Do you ever have days like that? But then.  Then there have been ups.

I took Mali to the park & she & I just played.  We swang on the swings.  You know how long it’s been since I last swang on a swing?  As I pumped my legs, the sun filtered through the trees overhead & Mali was giggling.  I was giggling.  I felt free.

Simple Meals for Kids

    coconut curry mixed greens
   basic taco
     simple quinoa
  roasted cauliflower
      20 minute dinner:  basic tacos, steamed broccoli, simple quinoa

 

Not having Joseph around to help with grocery shopping & meal prep & the fact that he’s not here to try to impress (yes, I admit, I do try to tempt his tastebuds & it ain’t easy), I have little motivation to go above & beyond the duty of basic nutrition.  Hence, simple & basic foods I know I can make in jif, & that I won’t have to battle with the kids over eating each bite.
