Last night the boys and their daddy made some delicious pizzas using the gluten-free mini crusts from Clean Cravings.
It took about 15 minutes from start to finish. About 5 minutes to put the pizzas together, then 10 minutes in the oven. They topped their pizzas with pizza sauce, olives, green bell peppers, and Veganrella cheddar flavor (a vegan brand of soy cheese that my kids actually like and doesn’t include a lot of filler ingredients).
My boys loved the pizza, especially the crust, and begged for more after they finished their first serving. The ingredients are organic, made from primarily brown rice flour with some herbs, and so delicious. On my pizza I put sliced onions, green peppers, pizza sauce, and sprinkled with nutritional yeast. The warm, slightly crispy crust and flavorful toppings were perfect for a chilly autumn day. My take on the crust? I think the crusts taste amazing, especially for being gluten-free (many gluten-free breads taste, let’s just say, not very pleasant). The crust wasn’t heavy and chewy like many gluten-free breads I’ve tried. You can use the crusts for pizza or sandwiches as a meal or mini-meal. Of course you can make your own gluten-free pizza crusts at a lower cost than buying them pre-made, but it’s nice to have some convienience items in your fridge and freezer so that you’re not tempted to eat out because there’s nothing fast to make at home. Many people aren’t willing to pay a little more for organic, convience items (like this) because of the price, but they are willing to go out to eat several times a week or month, spending much more on food that is many times not healthful and are rarely ever organic.
Let’s be realistic, most people can’t make everything from scratch all of the time, so it’s a good idea to have some healthful options that are easy enough to put together that anyone (even kids and a non-cooking spouse) can make.
