{MM} an indulgent weekend, fave links + giveaway winners!

This weekend was indulgent.

Like, eat a whole pint of maple pecan coconut ice cream, go out to eat three times, get a manicure & pedicure (it’s been years), go on a get-away with Joseph, indulgent.

A few other highlights:
I started running, or should I say shuffling. Can I say it’s much harder to run when you are carrying around an extra 45 pounds?? I shuffle for a bit, then take a break & walk. Then I shuffle till my knees feel like they’re going to give out, & take another walking break. It’s a sorry sight, but you’ve got to start somewhere.

Sally-babes (our nickname for Salem) turns 3 today!

And, this week marks 6 weeks post-partum (can you believe it?), which means…I’m kicking things into gear. Exercising, eating for weight loss, & getting back into fit fabulous shape. I know, everyone says, “you just had a baby…take your time”. Sorry, not going to take my time (I never have). I hate carrying around extra weight, it makes everything more difficult (see above). I’m excited to be running again, to feel strong & fit. I’ll be starting a new feature on Fridays where I share my journey to get fit–hopefully sharing with you will also motivate & inspire me, & you.

Great article on the Dove campaign. I’ve never felt entirely on board with what they’re saying.
You’re weekend sounds pretty fabulous to me- vegan ice cream, time with your man, self-love!
I’ve recently started running again too. I have to remind myself to not push myself too hard though as I have a tendency to overdo it and then I’ll get injured and be upset…:(

I do appreciate that they are more inclusive in their definition of beauty. But at that end of the day, they are selling products. Not exactly the people we should allow to define what beauty means.

Awesome! Are you an indoor (treadmill) or outdoor runner? I’m an outdoor runner but I have to be careful not to get shin splints from all the asphalt running.

Exactly. I think people need to be aware of where these messages are coming from and that they’re obviously slanted as they’re trying to sell us something!
As for the running, I used to run cross-country back in school so I’m used to grass but I’ve been on the treadmill mostly lately as it’s been too wet to be outside. I also live in the city, but we do have a lovely big park that’s nice for sunny days 🙂

I think it’s great that you are taking steps to feeling better. Of course, make sure you are eating plenty to fuel your body, but I know that you know that already. 😉

You seem to be feeling well postpartum? How’s it going? 🙂

I’m feeling AWE-some. It’s so nice to be able to move around again & have energy. It’s fun to be able to exercise again–it helps me sleep better, helps with stress management (ie. my natural anti-depressant) & it’s fun to feel myself getting stronger. And of course, it’s so nice to be able to snuggle with the baby, too. Tyndale is a fairly good sleeper, so though I have to get up during the night, he usually eats & goes back to sleep. Thank you for asking! ox

Looking forward to your friday posts! And any new frugal ones you post! I think 6 weeks is just fine to get back in shape. I have *never* been able to change my diet to lose weight but I do *love* exercising. Every pregnancy I beg my midwife to let me start at 2-3 weeks post partum and she’s always approved it pending how my body responds. So I get it. If it makes you feel good then go for it!

Yay ~ sounds like fabulous (and well-deserved!) weekend. Looking forward to reading your Friday updates!

I started running last summer, and after pushing myself to do a 5K in November, I stopped for a few months to let a mild hip strain heal. I started again last night (alternating walking & running) and it feels great.
