I’m mad at Google. I hate that they got rid of their reader (I know, that was so, like 2 months ago).

Now I use feedly, but my curated blog list (a list of some of the blogs I follow, here), is now gone. So I’m starting back at square one. Also I think a good majority of bring joy readers subscribed through Google reader. Phooey.

But good news all you ex-Google readers. You can follow bring joy via feedly by clicking here. I do like their clean look & design, it it makes it easy to read & follow blogs.

(How do you read blogs? How do you read this blog? I’m curious to know.)

But, enough about that.

I had an A+ weekend. It included:

  1. 1. Watching “Beasts of the Southern Wild”–you know the Oscar nominated indie film. It was a cultural experience.
  2. 2. Playing The Farming Game with my sons. For 6 hours. I love that game. It’s a great way to teach kids (& adults) about business, debt, & farming.
  3. 3. Swimming. Summer lasts forever here.

I have 3 (three!) dates complete with a babysitter lined up for the next few weeks with Joseph. This Friday we’re going to an officer’s ball. My first officer’s ball. I’m really excited. Joseph on the other hand…he’d rather go to a movie.

The good stuff:

Why frugal is not the same as cheap.

♥ Karen, a bring joy reader, sent me an email wondering if I knew if Ricki’s Naturally Sweet & Gluten Free cookbook contained low-glycemic recipes. My answer: All of her recipes are refined flour/refined sugar free, not necessarily the same as low-glycemic, but if you’re looking for healthier, allergy friendly, refined sugar-free dessert recipes, this is your cookbook. Karen also asked about raw desserts that are rich in omega-3. Check out Gena’s pumpkin chia pudding, along with all of her other delicious chia puddings for recipes that fit this description.

♥ It’s pumpkin season! I adore the orange squash. But it’s kinda pricey, in the can, ya know? So, this year, I’m hoping to save $$ by making my own homemade pumpkin puree. Have you ever made your own pumpkin & frozen the puree?

♥ While we’re on the pumpkin, Ricki’s pumpkin “cream cheese” is the perfect fall spread.

♥ Follow my autumn board on pinterest for more fall inspiration.

♥ Did you know you can freeze watermelon?! Only good for smoothies & sorbets (otherwise a completely defrosted watermelon cube is wet & mushy–yuckee)

Follow neverhomemaker‘s month-long series on tips & tricks for vegetarian freezer meals. Check out her menu here.

Happy Monday ya’ll.
