We left Utah on Sunday.
We drove through St. George, UT (southern corner of Utah) & stopped at the St. George LDS temple.
It’s a beautiful temple, especially when you consider it was completed in 1877, a time when St. George, like many Western cities, was an isolated desert town.
One of the things I love about visiting LDS temple grounds is the attention to detail. The grounds are always immaculate & well-manicured.
Driving through Arizona to get to Vegas. Not much to see. Mostly rocks, canyons. Nothing like Washington.
Even though I get carsick when I read in the car, I took the time to finish Little Bee. It’s beautifully written, & I fell in love with the intelligent, wise, & courageous, main character, Little Bee. Has some foul language & grown up themes, but the narrative & themes of the book–redemption, renewal, hope–are what make this book worthwhile.
We sang lots of songs. LOTS. It’s the one thing that keeps Salem happy.
Getting into Las Vegas. A bit of mild culture shock. Everything is so, Lady Gaga–big, in your face, artificial.
After Vegas we went to San Diego. Now we’re in L.A. at Knott’s Berry Farm.
Many more pictures to come!

Looks like you are having a beautiful time! Of course, you must not have seen much of Arizona. I may be biased because I live in Az but it is quite beautiful. Especially the sunsets. But, I am envious of all the green grass elsewhere.
Did you see the Grand Canyon? That is a site to see.
I’ve been to a Temple in Salt Lake City. It was wonderfully beautiful place! I have quite a large part of my extended family that are Mormon and I’m glad they shared the wonder that was the Temple.
Have fun!!
Glad you’re all hanging in and enjoying the trip! That scenery is spectacular.
I loved Little Bee but hated the ending. . . not sure I would have read it had I known! So difficult to read.
Ricki, I agree with you about the ending–tragic, but I don’t mind a tragic ending. In fact, some of my favorite novels are horribly depressing with tragic endings (Tess of the Durbervilles, anyone?). I know, something must be wrong with me. But the thing that I appreciate about these tragic endings, is that they are not tragic just for tragedy’s sake. Didn’t you find it extraordinarily hopeful that Little Bee did what she did to save Batman’s life? I find that inspiring, uplifting, despite the less than ideal ending.
